about about
maui canoe club, originally founded in 2006 as a non-racing or HCRA affiliated organization, moved permanently to Sugar Beach in 2010. The Club's new home, on A&B land, has been carefully developed to transform the property into a park-like setting to accommodate not only several Hawaiian outrigger canoes, but seasonally nesting turtles and native plants. In addition, we've supplied BBQ's, picnic tables, and an awesome view for our members, their families and friends, and welcomed Maui visitors. We're also pleased to announce that we're now the largest recreation-only canoe club in the world!
on being grateful to our community: From our original founding, Maui Canoe Club has also been dedicated to community service. Our partners in this service include (a Maui Canoe Club and originated paddling program for cancer survivors) and to Maui Food Bank. We have recently added a program, named Live Life Aloha, that benefits those struggling with diabetes and other weight related issues.

faq faq
What days to you take out guest members?
We go out every week day when conditions are favorable. Saturdays and Sundays are reserved for full members and their guests.
What if I cannot swim well or not at all?
Rethink your plan to go out on the ocean. No swim, No go. If you are not a strong swimmer, you may wear a US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (PFD).
Can a child paddle with us?
Children 16 years or younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. From ages 6 thru 12, chirldren must wear a PFD. We do not accommodate children younger than 6.
What should I wear?
You will get wet. Wear swim or beach wear with a UV protective shirt if you are sensitive. Also recommended are: sunscreen, sunglasses, secured hat or cap, and slippers (flip-flops) or easily removed footwear.
What else can or should I bring?
Water to drink, water-proof camera, car door key (with OUT electronic chip) secured to your clothing. The Club does not store personal items.
What if I'm not sure of my physical condition or ability?
Rethink your plan to go out on the ocean. You may wear a PFD.

Live Life Aloha Official Launch Jan. 28, 9 AM _ Maui Canoe Club
The goal of Live Life Aloha is to determine the answer to this question: is it possible to engage an at risk Hawaiian population in meaningful physical exercise, thereby reducing the potential of costly and debilitating chronic illness? The canoes regularly used by canoe clubs are not designed to accommodate participants who are full-figured. The Live Life Aloha program will attempt to bring this at risk population to a state of physical and emotional well-being by utilizing a key element of the Hawaiian culture; paddling outrigger canoes, custom built by Bradley Canoes, to accomodate participants.
Up to 600 guests, including the Lt. Governor, Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa, and various dignitaries from the County, UH Maui, the State, and others will be in attendance. All members are invited. For more information, please click on www.livelifealoha.org or see our Blog on the "bb and chat" page.
Here's the video, shot by PBS Hawaii, about this new Maui Canoe Club Program. Check it out!
